Steve Pearce calls Red Sox cheating allegations ‘such a joke’

first_imgPearce enjoyed the best two weeks of his career in Boston’s five-game Series triumph over the Dodgers. He hit .333 with three home runs and eight RBIs.He struggled last year, though, batting .180 in limited action and spending most of the campaign on the IL because of calf and back injuries.”You know what? It has been a good run,” Pearce, 37, told WEEI. “I have 10 years (of service time) in (MLB). Right now I am officially retired.” Steve Pearce is adamant that history will look favorably upon the 2018 World Series-winning Red Sox despite allegations they illegally stole signs that season. The first baseman, who was voted World Series MVP that year, commented on the perception of his former team while announcing his retirement from baseball Monday night. Earlier this year, Boston fired manager Alex Cora for his role in the separate Astros cheating scandal and is awaiting an MLB report on its own actions. Pearce believes that investigation will clear the team’s reputation.”That’s such a joke to us,” Pearce told Boston’s WEEI Radio. “When it came out, we were all kind of joking about it. We just want this to pass us. We won it fair and square. Whatever they accused us of, we were all kind of like, ‘I can’t believe this is even an issue.’ Once the report comes out, we’re all going to be free.”MORE: Worst sets of the Junk Wax Era of baseball cardslast_img read more
