Men’s Tennis Player of the Week – Thomas Rodrigues, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – So. – Romorantin, France Rodrigues started Wednesday’s contest against the Cardinals with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 doubles with partner William Mottet, defeating LU’s Sebastian Santibanez and Arthur Serfaim. The sophomore from Romorantin, France, then took down Lamar’s Arthur Serafim at the No. 3 flight, 6-2, 6-1. The Islanders (19-8, 5-0 SLC) defeated Lamar (8-13, 2-3 SLC) 5-2 this week to claim the No. 2 seed in the Southland Conference Tennis Tournament in Beaumont, Texas. They will face No. 3 Abilene Christian (14-10, 3-2 SLC) on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots.
