RCB vs GL: Chris Gayle bounces back from slump with brutal 77 off 38

first_imgChris Gayle smashed his 21st half-century in the Indian Premier League as Royal Challengers Bangalore took the upper hand against Gujarat Lions in Rajkot on Tuesday.Gayle was in ordinary form for the first few matches season and was dropped twice before finally getting the chance to return against the Lions only because AB de Villiers was down with an injury again. The West Indian southpaw was three short of 10,000 T20 runs before the start of the match and once he got past that landmark there was no stopping him. He was particularly harsh on Ravindra Jadeja, taking 20 runs off his second over with the help of two boundaries and two sixes. In fact, he was brilliantly caught by Brendon McCullum on the last ball of that over but his hat touched the boundary rope as he landed and rolled over on impact. It was complete mayhem as he launched into West Indian teammate Dwayne Smith, showing no respect for his reputation.Gayle did not enjoy a great time in the IPL last year, overshadowed as he was by Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. But the 37-year-old Gayle was determined to prove a point and he picked the Gujarat bowlers to do that.Kohli, by comparison, was passive, happy to let Gayle take centre stage in a brutal partnership.last_img read more
