Liverpool team to play West Brom: Is this predicted line up the XI you would pick?

first_img Will Gerrard make his 500th League appearance against West Brom? Liverpool will be hoping to bounce back after their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Aston Villa when they play West Brom on Saturday at the Hawthorns.Liverpool lost 2-1 against Villa on Sunday at Wembley and which means that they will go through another trophyless season under Brendan Rodgers. However, the Reds are still in with an outside chance of a Champions League spot and a win against West Brom is vital to that remaining ambition. One stat that will should them some confidence is the 86 goals they have scored at the Hawthorns over the years, winning 26 of their 65 visits – four more than their hosts. But they face a team who have just had a morale-boosting victory over an in-form Crystal Palace and Kopites will recall that they lost 3-0 at this ground in Rodgers’ first Premier League game in charge three years ago. Furthermore, manager Tony Pulis has never lost a Premier League home game against Liverpool. The Reds also have a few injuries to key members of their squad in the lead up to this game, making the mission ever harder.Lucas Leiva is missing through a thigh strain, while Mamadou Sakho and Adam Lallana will also miss the trip. The match is also expected to come too soon for Daniel Sturridge, but Steven Gerrard, who will make his 500th Premier League appearance if picked to play, is once again fit to start. But who will Rodgers start to play this must win game? talkSPORT take a look GoalkeeperSimon Mignolet will continue in goal for Liverpool as he continues to attempt to win over all his critics.    His command of the area has vastly improved since he was dropped earlier in the season but question marks are still raised as to whether he really is the goalkeeper to take Liverpool forward in the future.DefenceWith Sakho stuck on the physio table, Lovren will join Martin Skrtel and Emre Can in defence. The trio struggled against a hard-working Aston Villa at the weekend and will need to be wary of a West Brom attack that may well feature the pace of Saido Berahino.Lovren himself hasn’t settled since his £20m move from Southampton in the summer, but will now have the chance to improve his claim to be a regular starter in a red shirt.MidfieldIf Steven Gerrard does play he will become only the 12th player in history to make 500 Premier League appearances, with only Ryan Giggs and Jamie Carragher managing the feat for just one club. With Lucas injured for this game and Raheem Sterling having to play as the lone striker, it seems likely that Gerrard will achieve this landmark.Alongside him will be Jordan Henderson, who signed a new five-year deal with the club this week and will more than likely be the future club captain for the years to come. What was perhaps worrying last weekend was Aston Villa’s ability to dominate the midfield, something that Henderson, Joe Allen and Gerrard will have to put right against a similarly strong West Brom.Jordon Ibe will be available for selection again after he was cup tied for Wembley and expect him to play the right wing-back role. Alberto Moreno, perhaps one of Liverpool’s better signings this season, will start on the left.AttackPhilippe Coutinho scored Liverpool’s only goal against Aston Villa and the Reds will be hoping the 22-year-old can be the difference against a Tony Pulis side that will be very hard to break down. The front man is likely to be Raheem Sterling, with Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert out of favour under Rodgers. It will be interesting to see if either of them stay during the summer transfer window, especially with the young Belgian striker Divock Origi coming into the squad next season. 1last_img read more
