Police to be on alert for religious attacks

The police media unit said that Sri Lanka is a multi-religious country where all communities live in harmony. However it says there have been reports of attacks on religions which the victims at times find difficult to report to the police. The police will be on alert for attacks carried out against religions with the introduction of a new hotline.According to the police media unit, the hotline will come into effect tomorrow (Sunday) and will be operational 24 hours of the day. The new hotline introduced for this purpose by the police is 011-3182904, 011-3188753 or FAX 011-2423944.The police said that anyone facing threats or harassment in the name of a religion can contact the hotline to report the issue.
